I'd never assembled a focused set of pieces before, and would
need to do so if I wanted a strong portfolio to go into college with
I've never done so much art in so little a time before.
This whole dozen-pieces-in-a-year business is considerably more
work than it sounds like. I've learned a great deal of technical skill
simply through the sheer volume of practice I've done.
My knowledge of anatomy has been sharpened to a point,
shading has become second nature, and I've gained the important
skill of building form from additive brush strokes.
Honestly, before I began to work on my portfolio, I had feared that
having a focused concept in my art for so long might cause my
technical skills to stagnate. Instead, my technical skills have flourished.
